With the number of extrajudicial killings growing and compounding civil rights violations in the Philippines, the Associated Students, Inc. Senate at Long Beach State moves to formally support the Philippine Human Rights Act.

Through an online survey, Associated Students, Inc. found that the majority of Long Beach State students are not satisfied with online instruction.

Associated Students, Inc.’s day one of Cultural Welcomes took place via Zoom, featuring LGBTQIA+ organizations and clubs on campus. There, students had the opportunity to discuss how Black individuals have contributed to the community.

Despite 2,200 students and 220 student organizations attending last week’s online Week of Welcome, some transfer students are still struggling to find their place at Long Beach State.

In a stroke of symbiosis, a partnership between Long Beach Organic and Cal State Long Beach’s ASI Beach Pantry has been helping fight food insecurity since April by providing fresh, donated produce for students in need during the pandemic.

Now that CSULB classes are online-only and nearly all in-person gatherings are banned, both students and faculty involved with Associated Students Inc.—the campus’s student government—were left with the daunting task of recreating the Week of Welcome experience online. Their answer? An app.

Week of Welcome at Long Beach State will take place virtually from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 for the first time in the campus’ history, causing many changes for the event.

Associated Students Inc. leaders have decided to close the on-campus recycling center after finalizing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Since the suspension of in-person classes and closure of some facilities at Long Beach State due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students have taken to social media to voice concerns about where tuition and enrollment fees are going.
