Samantha Valdez

Samantha Valdez is a third-year business marketing major with a minor in political science. As ASI vice president, she is committed to representing the student body with fairness, consistency and a strong understanding of the policies and processes that guide student government. She hopes to use her position to advocate for ideas and initiatives that benefit students and strengthen their experience at Long Beach State.

As a first-generation college student, Samantha understands how challenging it can be to navigate college and discover the resources and opportunities available on campus. She is excited to draw on her experiences at CSULB to help students connect with resources they may not know about. She believes college is not only a place to earn an education, but also an opportunity to build community, create lasting memories and develop pathways toward a future career.

Samantha’s own journey to finding community at CSULB shaped her interest in student leadership. During her first year, she struggled to find her place on campus and often felt as though other students had already found their communities. In her second year, she discovered ASI and joined the University Student Union and Student Recreation & Wellness Center Board of Trustees (URECBOT). The experience introduced her to new opportunities, perspectives and students with a wide range of interests, styles and career goals. Finding her community within ASI strengthened her connection to campus and inspired her to become more involved in representing her fellow students.

Samantha grew up in Fresno, California, before moving to San Diego 13 years later. Those experiences taught her the importance of adaptability and have influenced her approach to leadership. She also credits her close-knit family with shaping who she is today. Her parents, Alicia and Trinidad, inspired her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, while growing up alongside her sisters, Marysol and Isabella, taught her confidence, teamwork, open-mindedness and patience.

After serving on the URECBOT, Samantha is excited to continue her work in ASI as vice president. She looks forward to collaborating with student leaders, advocating for the needs of the student body and helping students find the resources, opportunities and sense of belonging that shaped her own experience at Long Beach State.
